No, it was a combination radio/cassette player (yes, back in the day, we had tape cassettes) and I used to listen to it in my bedroom and tape the episodes as they were broadcast, but we won't talk about that, since home taping was horrendously illegal and very, very naughty ;-)
See, I knew Bill Nighy from being Sam on the radio before I ever saw him in any of the later films and television programmes, so my mental image of him is quite different.
